I have been thinking about the challenge. I know lots of people just had amazing success with pile on the miles, so I want to make it suitable for all abilities. So any runners or walkers are welcome to join. Whether you want to do an ultramarathon (52.4+) or a marathon (26.2) miles by January 1st! It is totally doable for anyone, starting at less than a mile a day for marathoners and a minimum of 1.75 for ultramarathoners. Technically an ultramarathon is any distance over 26.2, but 52.4 is a good goal, but you don’t have to stop there.
Rules for entry:
- Commit to trying to run/walk 26.2 miles by Jan. 1st or 52.4 plus for ultramarathoners
- Join by Dec. 7th!
- Track distance anyway you like, with Nike+ Ipod Sport, Google Pedometer, Map My Run, etc.
- Log your miles on the google docs excel sheet. You can do this daily or weekly by Sunday please. Pick a name to use or email me with your desired name and I will add you to the sheet. You can also send me your weekly miles if you prefer, and I will enter them. EMAIL: thelittlerunnerthatcould at gmail dot com
Fun Stuff
- Fill out the runner profile if you want to on the second page of the Blogger Marathon Challenge Log
- Each Sunday, everyone who has entered their weekly mileage, gets entered to win a small prize.
- At the the top 3 ultramarathoners get a prize and 3 successful marathon challengers will be in the drawing for a prize.
- Daily running/fitness tips and/or inspiration and motivation!
Details to Work Out:
How to best communicate. I could just post everything to the blog. Or I could send daily emails. Or I could put everything on a google group, and you can decide how often you want to receive update notifications. Or we could do some combination of the above. Ideas, preferences please.
Questions? What am I missing?

Hi Melissa…no preference…email or blog updates sounds good. I’m excited to see your hair!

Hi Melissa,
count me in too. I’m by no means a runner, so I’m sticking to the marathon goal (because of the cold, I’ll use the treadmill mostly).
As for the updates, blog updates sounds ok, but I think it can become confusing, so maybe the google group would be the best option, but I’m ok with whatever you choose to do!
Thanks for setting this up!
