Getting Ripa-d

April 3, 2009 · 10 Comments

I am joining the fabulous, gorgeous and wonderful Angela’s Oh She Glows Bikini Body Boot Camp.  I still haven’t worked up the courage to take pictures, but I did find pictures from the time I felt my body was at its absolute best.  I was lean, but very toned.  I had great ab and arm definition for the first time ever.  And probably most importantly, I finally achieved a healthy balance; I had gained a much needed college 20 and was starting to understand that strength was MUCH sexier than skinny. I will share my goal photos if you would like, but I’m not sure that anyone really cares to see me in a two piece–it’s actually quite bay watch minus the boobs.

I must admit that 2004-2005 summer was the climate was perfect for achieving a bikini body. It was a lifeguarding summer, so I had to be in a suit a LOT!  In addition, I was doing a daily triathlon.  Biking an absolute minimum of 6 miles a day (an average of 12 miles—no car), plus doing the lifeguard mandatory workout which either consisted of a 2 mile run and 15 minute ocean swim or one mile beach run and than wind sprints in the sand followed by strength and ocean water rescue drills.

This coupled with the fact that I was working 7 days a week (5 guarding, 2 writing for the MV Times), plus 2 nights ice cream scooping, and one night usually consisting of a working a catering event, party or baby-sitting meant I didn’t have much time for boredom eating!  Although I did manage to do a lot of partying…to put it modestly.

Obviously, I can’t expect to get as toned as I was then because my desk job+school mean I just don’t have as much natural activity. However, I have a plan…a plan to get Ripa-d. kelly_ripa_is_hot_i_dont_say_that_enough_main_1487000x0432x649

Basically, I am following Kelly Ripa’s workout.

According to this she does:

  • Physique 57 4-5 times a week
  • Runs 3-5 miles 5 times a week
  • Strength trains with trainer

My version

  • Exhale Core Fusion-4 times a week
  • Exhale Core Fusion Sport (for strength boost)-1 time a week
  • Strength train-1 time a week
  • Exhale Yoga-1 time a week
  • Run 3-5 miles-3 times a week, plus 1 long run.

Plus, do my best to follow bethenny’s dictums.

For a look at just how hardcore Ripa is, check out this video

Although I think she is thinner in this video than I desire to be, it does have good strength training ideas.

I want to get Ripa-d! I wish I could join P57 or Exhale but my gym is so expensive as it is and I love my spin. We’ll see though! I have been known to spend extravagantly at times. :) I did waste a lot of money on stupid pilates reformer lessons. I am jealous of your schedule.

She is so hardcore in that video!

    gotta love Ripa.

have you heard anything/reivews about the Nike Sport Band? It might be old but I am just learning about it. I wanted a GPS like watch to figure out my pace and miles run but they are too expensive? the Sport Band seems like a good option, but I don’t have nike shoes? just wondering if you have read about it?

This is definitely my plan as soon as I get back from this bachelorette in Charleston. I have 12 weeks until my first big engagement party and shower. I know that 12 weeks can do a TON. Can you send me the costs of core? I could possibly be persuaded.

Hi Ashley, enjoy the party. I love charleston. The price for their nice studios is:

    monthly membership options

Full Mind Body Class Membership | $285
unlimited Core Fusion, Core Energy Flow + yoga classes for one month • 10% off retail purchases and select spa therapies • five complimentary mind body class passes for friends upon initial signing • complimentary yoga mat rentals • complimentary organic tea • full use of changing rooms, showers, personal lockers + amenities at exhale New York locations

It is $199 a month for just the downtown location, which has no amenities whatsoever, but it right near my work and has a decent schedule.
