No, I am not talking about the new flavors of pinkberry, although I certainly hope they are better than the originals.
I am talking about Lotte Burke-style exercise classes!
Missy, Dori, and Emily have all mentioned their addictions! And of course, I declared my addiction in December 07. Don’t worry for those not in NYC, a little googling and you should be able to find online videos or local classes that feature the Lotte Burke Method. And as I mentioned, the Exhale Core Fusion DVD is well worth your money. Plus you can use your free class pass when you visit me in NYC (wink wink) or go to a studioin the hamptons, miami, santa monica, venice, south beach, palm beach, turks and caicos, dallas, boston, chicago!
Anyways, tonight, I chose my poison of choice, Physique 57. I just LOVE it. It is always insanely crowed (again, how does everyone afford it?–I had a free referrer class) and the studio is a little warm, but the workout is hands down the best for me. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE core fusion and the Nalini Method was pretty good, but P57 is my bff.
I like it best for a few reasons: 1.) Because they offer different levels, tonight I took the intermediate class, so there is always room for additional challenge. (I won’t be touching advanced for quite a while.) 2.) P57 also happens to be the class that most targets my areas of focus, the legs and butt. Yes, I like a good ass kicking. 3.) The music is always good. Tonight’s class was amazing–my legs were still shaking a bit as I hobbled out the door. However, there was a minor crisis when I got to midtown and realized I had forgotten my ipodat the studio. I exited the subway station, called to confirm it had been found, went back downtown to retrieve it, when the train stopped one stop away from my destination with brake difficulties–noooo!
So I got off and walked for the second time that day from West 4th to the studio, a total of a mile and a quarter, but the post-class last trip was rough! Thank gosh I took advantage of the always present bowl of free granny smiths!
I retrieved my beloved ipod and finally headed home quite tired. At least I did my half hour of cardio on my lunch hour, so no need to be anything but lazy when I got home. Actually, I did none of the intensive cleaning/laundry I had planned. Instead I did some posts that are scheduled to publish during my trip. I think with my guest posts and my own pre-posts, I will have something go live almost every other day!
If you are just not into the whole Lotte Burke thing–and don’t worry, not everyone is, one of my co-workers said the class reminded her of kindergarten, there are lots of other great options.
You may have read about Punk Rope recently in VJD. I reviewed it a while back, so much for the best workout I haven’t tried VJD–jk
. The hard-core jump-roping class is going to be hoping into YMCAs in neighborhoods all over town, including mine LIC! Check the schedule to find a location near you! (it is offered outside of NYS too)
Also, lots of awesome free yoga in parks all over NYC.
Look for classes in:
Union Square-yoga by Om Yoga, Pure Yoga and Prana Yoga
Laughing Lotus Yoga in the Park (10th ave between 14th and 15th)
Socrates Sculpture Park Yoga and Pilates
There are many more options out there, thank god for google!
All right, off to bed. Actually, I am in bed, time to turn off the computer! sweet dreams.

I can’t get over how you have energy to do cardio and P57 in one day! You are amazing. These classes are all so addicting. I think I prefer CF because of the larger studio size and less competitieness

I’ve definitely got to make it to a class soon! Maybe since I’m in town this weekend after all…

I totally agree about the studio and the competitiveness, it is a downside. But I really like the lower body focus at p57!

Hi FitnessNYC…3 years ago, I left my investment banking job, got engaged, and spent 6 non-working months planning our wedding. During that time, I became a Physique 57 addict, attending TWO classes every day! I would go to the 9:30am and 4/4:30pm class like clockwork and never looked better–the classes are really fantastic and there’s nothing like them. Of course, this was a very abnormal routine and, when I returned to work 2 years ago, I, like most people, now don’t have the time to attend so many classes and haven’t been in some time but I’m so glad you’re in love–it’s amazing!

So true – P57 is an incredible workout, and both times I went, I came out thinking, if I did this regularly, I would be SHREDDED.
