Fitness NYC

About

I am a 25 year-old fitness fan. I started to blog while I was training for my first marathon, the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Fransisco in 2007.  Since then the blog has evolved to cover my reviews of the latest workout crazes in the city, fitness deals, training plans, lots of random thoughts and the current events I am training for.  I hope to inspire others to try new things, and learn to look at working out as a treat for yourself, not a chore.  While I may seem sort of obsessed because this blog is mainly focused on my workouts, not the other 90% of my life, I actually have a way normal life for a 20-something :)   My passion for fitness began around my junior year of college, and I credit working out for keeping my mood elevated and stable, and allowing me to expel stress, drama and the tension that comes from living in the best concrete jungle in the world. While I think exercising gave me an outlet for a balanced perspective on health and fitness, and eventually helped me leave some less healthy periods permanently behind me, running in particular has given me an appreciation  and respect for my body and its strength and resilence, rather than my dress size.  I don’t work out to fit into skinny jeans, I do it for the exhilaration and invincibility I feel after a great long run or spinning class.

If you have any questions please ask and check out my Q and A interview on Choosing raw!  For a little more about my life outside the gym, check out this about me post.

Hey, Melissa! I found your blog through Erica’s (Sweet Eats) and I’m so glad I did!
I’m planning on moving to the city once I graduate next Winter, and I can’t wait! Luckily, I have lots of fam in the city and Brooklyn, so I get to visit often.
    Have a wonderful day!

Hi Melissa — thank you for your wonderful blog, your thorough, thoughtful and real-world posts, and most of all for your wonderful attitude! Your strength and the positivity and balance with which you throw yourself into training is inspiring to me, and a great resources for women and girls everywhere, particularly at a time when there are more unrealistic images of health and fitness out there than realistic ones. Thanks again for all your work and dedication —

    My very best,

    Lucca.
